Armed police respond to reports of man “behaving erratically” with an axe in Yeovil

Armed police were called to reports of a man behaving erratically with an axe in Yeovil today (Saturday, September 12). More than ten police cars were spotted at Downleaze, just off Lysander Road, with Avon and Somerset Police confirming that officers and armed officers were first called at 10.20am. At 5pm police officers forced entry into the property and the man was detained.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “At 10.20am this morning we received a number of reports a man was behaving erratically with an axe at an address on Downleaze, Yeovil. “Officers, including armed officers, attended and tried to engage with the man, who refused to come out of the property. “Entry was subsequently forced at about 5pm and the man was detained.

He remains in police custody and enquires into the incident are ongoing.”
