Security alert in Co Down with main road closed

Police dealing with a security alert at Old Holywood Rd o n the outskirts of Holywood, Co Down say it has ended. A spokesperson said: “A suspect object was examined and it was nothing untoward. The Old Holywood Road has now reopened.”

The entire road had been currently closed with diversions in place. It is understood a suspicious object was examined near Palace Barracks army base.

The PSNI hadasked that all drivers avoid the area. A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are currently at the scene of a security alert in Holywood.
