East Kilbride police probe three reports of man approaching women and acting suspiciously

Police have launched an investigation into three separate reports of ‘concerning behaviour’ from a man in the Stewartfield area of East Kilbride. A woman reported a man acting suspiciously last Wednesday evening, while on Friday there were two separate incidences of women being approached a man in the neighbourhood. Police are currently working to establish whether the three incidents are linked and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

The force has increased its presence in the area following the reports. A statement issued this afternoon confirmed: “Officers in East Kilbride have been made aware of three separate incidents following concerning behaviour from a man in the Stewartfield area.

“The first incident happened around 6.50pm on Wednesday, 17 March where a woman reported a man acting suspicious on Stewartfield Road. “A second incident took place on Friday, 19 March where a woman was approached and spoken to by a man around 2.30pm.

“Around 5.15pm on Friday, 19 March a third incident took place when a man approached a woman on Stewartfield Crescent. “Enquires are continuing to establish if these incidents are linked.”
Inspector David Doherty, Police Scotland’s East Kilbride Community Policing Unit, commented: “We understand incidents of this nature are concerning for the local community but I would like to reassure them that we have an increased police presence in the area and are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this.

“I would ask if anyone notices anyone acting suspicious in the area to get in touch with officers.

“Anyone who has any concerns surrounding these incidents or has had a similar encounter, please get in contact with police.

“Police can be contacted by calling 101 and quoting incident number 2899 of 17/03/21.”
